EKISTICS was commissioned to lead the re-envisioning of a new master plan for the Fairwinds Community. Located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, the project encompassed over 700 acres of lakes and forested ridges, rare Garry oak meadows and rugged coastlines. Structured around detailed conservation planning, the Lakes District provides for the phased development of 1,700 homes set within a series of clustered walkable neighbourhoods that link to community destinations and public parks, connected by a network of tree-lined streets and pedestrian pathways. Working as prime consultant, EKISTICS led a multi-year consultation with the Client, Community, Regional District and Province to craft an innovative, award-winning masterplan – establishing a model for community development that weaves sustainability into a design celebrating the region’s natural landscape.
